We want people with learning disabilities to feel as much a part of their local community as anyone else.
We work closely with individuals finding out what they love to do, and what their strengths are. We also spend time getting to know local communities and local people. Then we try to link up individuals to an opportunity in their area which we think will work for them.
The whole point is that it is about mutual benefit - what people with learning disabilities can offer to local communities as well as what local communities can offer them. It is a chance to know and get known by more people, to make friends and to be appreciated for who you are.

Gerard’s story
Gerard retired from a day centre last year, having spent 30 years there. He is now a member of weekly walking group for older people.
Gerard walks along and chats to John and Ivan or Shirley. He starts up conversations and asks people how they are. Jokes are shared. Isabel suggested he catch the bus rather than rely on a supporter. So now he does. The group leader is arranging a lift back to bus stop at the end of the walk.
The group have set up a bowls night at the memorial park which Gerard has been a significant part of – bowling the winning ball for his team and team captain the time after that. He has become part of the social life of the group – their cream teas and lunches.
