Ella’s story
Ella is 18 now and we are helping her and her family through the Individual Budget pilot. Support planning has been much easier as we had already helped Ella’s family prepare an essential lifestyle plan. We aim to prevent her from entering day services so that she can achieve the ordinary life outcomes she and her family want.
With careful and well thought out support based on her plan, Ella enjoys more positive relationships with people when she is out and about. Forum bowling club has become a favourite and regular place where the staff know her and where she sees other people she knows.
Staff at the bowling alley respond well to Ella. She is very excited when she is out and we think it makes people positive about her. Ella now gets on well with family friends she had lost touch with like Bryn and Charlie.
Bryn and Charlie are her contemporaries and went to the same mainstream primary school as Ella but had not socialised with her since childhood. They now go to night clubs with her. Ella also gets on well with bar staff she sees regularly when she’s out with them.
These are still early days, but Ella has developed new relationships and has rekindled old relationships in a way that helps her enjoy the social life of an 18 year old. Planning has achieved positive changes for Ella.
