Help and Connect

We help people with learning disabilities to make connections and use ordinary services.

Everyone wants to have a good life. For most people that means a decent place to live, knowing good people and places in their area, having friends and interesting things to do.

Getting these things is not always easy. Anyone setting out to make a life needs support and information.

People with learning disabilities in Coventry can get that from Grapevine's Help and Connect service.

What we offer

Every person is unique. They have different strengths and interests. So we take time to find out what you want. We try and help in a way that works for you.

There are lots of ways to get support and information at Help and Connect.

Drop In

Sessions where we meet you one-to-one . We help you get over problems, understand information and find out about other places you can get support.

Skill Up

Training sessions to work on confidence, independence, staying safe, positive mental health, benefits changes, 'mate crime' and anything else that's important to you.

Take Charge

Groups for people with a learning disability and autism or mental health issues. These groups are 'user-led' - we find out what's important to group members and then work on those things.

It will certainly be about speaking up for yourself and building confidence. The rest is up to you. These groups meet twice a month.

Get Connected

One-to-one support to get connected in the community. Each person can get support for up to six months.

Stronger Together

Two small community groups that meet each week.

Both groups are about getting out and about, building friendships and networks:

  • The first is based on Grapevine's successful D:vine group. For some years D:vine has worked with young people to get involved through city music venues, events and festivals. Groups last for a year.
  • The second group is about helping people get more confident when they go out and about and meet people. The group will have its own ideas. But we know that making and keeping friends is not always easy. So we'll help people to build circles of friends that can carry on when the group ends. Groups last for six months.

Staff at Help and Connect have years of experience:

Heather Ewing and Gordon Lowe have supported Grapevine groups for many years. Like all Grapevine staff, they know how to support people to make the most of their skills. They don't take over.
