Coventry's youth celebrate funding opportunity

Lord Mayor Cllr Jack Harrison joined in a celebration of Coventry young people's innovative abilities at Thursday 26 January at Aston Court Hotel.

Over 100 young people represented their projects which were funded following a successful bid for support from Coventry's Youth Opportunity Fund.  Grapevine won one of four award categories: Most innovative. The others were: Best value for money, Reaches most young people and The highest number of skills passed on. The four successful projects each received a trophy.

Funding decisions are made by a grant panel that is made of young people. The grant panel has this year allocated more than £615,000.00.

April Donnelly, Operational Manager, said:  "We are delighted to be holding our 4th annual YOF celebration event. So far the fund has benefited approximately 20,000 young people in the city. The fund targets young people aged between 13 and 19 and from all backgrounds and including those hard to reach. It has allowed young people engage in positive activities, build their confidence, develop new skills and to make their idea into a reality. We hope the fund continues to support young people in the future." Musa Bhayat, Project Officer, said: "It has been a great pleasure working alongside young people and seeing them realise their potential."
