A few years ago, the concept of personal budgets and personal assistants changed for young disabled people in Coventry and Warwickshire.
Now young people and their families can use their direct payment to employ a personal assistant who supports the young person in growing their interests and connections to the community, developing independent life skills along the way. We asked young people what personal assistants should be called and they said ‘future guides’.
Every so often, we have future guide opportunities and are here to help make the connection between a young disabled person and the right person to help them on their journey.
Although we’ll be there to provide training and support, the contract is between those two people. The individual, the hours each week and location will vary but the video explains the overall importance of a rewarding role that can have a lasting impact on someone’s life.
