CYA Playbook launch event: Creating bold, joyful change with young disabled people

The new CYA Playbook launches this week! Written by the award-winning Coventry Youth Activists (aka CYA) with Grapevine’s community organising team, the Playbook delivers a guide, a celebration and a collection of ideas. All rolled into one.

It’s everything we’ve learned from organising together — the joyful bits, the hard bits and all the moments in between.

A group of six, smiling young disabled people - two of them, wheelchair users - pose for a team photo outdoors in front of a multi-coloured mural of a face on a brick wall. They are members of Coventry Youth Activists.

It’s the guide we couldn’t find anywhere else… so we wrote our own! Now we are sharing it with you at a special gathering this Thursday (10 July) aimed at:

  • Youth workers and organisers
  • Disabled young people starting their own thing
  • Allies, educators, creatives and campaigners
  • Anyone who wants to think like a community organiser.

Grapevine is proud to have walked alongside CYA since they began 2017 — coaching, championing and making space as members have grown into their power and become leaders in their own right.

CYA said: “We believe that joy matters, creativity is powerful and that young disabled people should have the chance to lead, speak up and shape their communities.

“Now, we’re sharing how we’ve done that in our own way!”

Click here to sign up for next week’s Ally Gathering, online from 11:30am to 1pm to:

  • Celebrate with the young people who built it
  • Learn how to be an active ally and move from support to action
  • Connect with others who are organising for change with care and creativity.

Grapevine deputy CEO Mel Smith said: “This is an opportunity to unlock the secrets to powerful campaigning and community action — straight from the frontlines.

“CYA’s Playbook is a go-to manual packed with wisdom, insider tips and real life strategies for making change happen, all crafted by young disabled organisers and our team.

“It’s the ultimate guide to organising with young disabled people.”

Guests joining the 10 July gathering will be among the first to see the new Playbook.

CYA hope they may even meet people doing similar work — because in eight years, they’ve never met anyone quite like them! Could that be you?

This is more than a download. It’s the CYA Playbook.
