Challenging perceptions of disability: Free employer networking event

Today we announce an exciting new event in partnership with Accelerate to bring learning disabled and autistic job seekers together with businesses in Coventry and Warwickshire.

More people than ever are searching for work, especially those who are already at a disadvantage due to assumptions and stereotypes.

Autistic people and people with learning disabilities frequently struggle to find sustainable work and are among some of the most negatively impacted by the pandemic – one side effect being two-year ‘gaps’ in experience and employment on CVs.

The 11 May event seeks to redress the balance and connect businesses looking for new employees with a largely untapped pool of talent.

And the best part? It is organised and run by job seekers themselves as an opportunity to show off their skills. Skills that may include, but are not limited to, understanding complex systems, focus, reliability, loyalty and passion for making a difference.

Customers also increasingly want to support businesses that make a positive contribution to their communities and wider society.

Register for the free event here.

If your company is moving out of the Covid crisis and aiming to:

  • Enhance strategies for recruitment and staff retention
  • Widen recruitment reach and increase workforce diversity
  • Better represent the communities you serve by building an inclusive workforce
  • Meet talented people actively seeking employment.

Then please join us for lunch, networking and presentations at Coventry Central Hall on Wednesday 11 May from 12:00 to 1:15pm!

The aim of this event is to challenge perceptions of disability, learn from real-life experiences (both positive and negative) and help make the road to employment more successful and rewarding on both sides.

With just six per cent* of people with a learning disability in England in paid employment in 2018, it’s time to remove barriers from the application process and the workplace to create an equal playing field and give skilled, qualified candidates the chance to succeed.
